Alongside a small group of Graphics students, I worked with an Interior Architecture team to design a structure for the Green Space, Dark Skies festival. This structure exhibited interactive posters surrounding the topic of nature connectedness, the theme of the festival series.
Within the collaborative studio session, I paired with an Interior Architect to consider the materiality and decorative elements of the structure. At that point, the posters and structure were to be divided into four themes with distinct sections. We came up with a material decoration that represented each theme. I then created a mock up and began considering material use.
After the collaborative studio session, I wasn’t involved in the making process. It was interesting to see which elements from my initial designs were used for the final structure.
The collaboration contributed to the success of the exhibition space, providing a line of communication to discuss the specifications for the interactive posters created by Graphic Design students, for example relaying the poster dimensions that the Architecture team developed so that the prints would be to a professional standard. Also, our insight into AR requirements ensured the structure was optimised for the use of AR. For example, having struggled to trigger the AR posters at The Barbican’s exhibition, I suggested ensuring the structure allowed clearance for people could step back to capture the entire poster within their phone lens, enabling the trigger to work.
